Virginia's First Pictures

These are pictures from Virginia's first few days of life. Many of the lead-up pictures from the birth I have under lock and key elsewhere due to their explicit (read - bloody and breast-exposing) nature. Thus, these pages are Safe For Work.

We hope you enjoy these photographs. - Andy and Carol

(Note - any shots taken by the SX150 have timestamps that are one hour early due to a failure to adjust to DST by the camera operators)

  • Last picture of the three of us before Virginia was born (sadly, you can't see Carol's belly in this shot. But it was there.) This is at Wendy and Doug Dwyer's house, who were totally awesome in watching Edward during Carol's labor.
  • Carol in mid-active labor - the bandage is holding both of the ledes for the electronic fetal monitor (contractions and baby's heartbeat, top to bottom). She was trying to determine if the baby had dropped. The bandage on her right arm, made from the certified American baby hat material, is to cover up her IV port so that she didn't have to see it during labor. This picture was taken shortly before she decided to have her water broken - her cervix at this point was 8 cm and 100% effaced (soft, anterior-mid, -1 station, for those of you keeping track of her Bishop scores). It had been that way for about 6 hours.
  • Carol skipped all the medical birthing pictures because they involved blood and boobs and stuff. None of the nurses are in this public gallery, either. This is the first pic we have of Andy holding Virginia, about 50 minutes after birth, though he got to hold her about 35-40 minutes after. (Carol held her until the sewing was done by Dr. Dixon.)
  • Goo.
  • D'awww.
  • Carol enjoying her first post-labor meal - standing besides her most awesome doula EVAR, Sarah Baker. (Okay, we'll ignore the fact that she's been Carol's only doula. She was still totally awesome.)
  • Getting tested by the pediatrician/nurses.
